Re: February, 2015 Reviews
Monday 2 February
'Twas Brodie's turn to put on a display
The best I've seen for many a day
The audience was 'with it' right from the start
They knew that Brodie was playing the part.
Good use of his voice, so all could be heard
Stress here and there brought meanings to words
With Todd right beside him Expressing was fun
The shoe race was close, but Todd clearly won.
The Letter scene, emotional, as you'd expect
No fun here or the scene would be wrecked
Born to Boogie, with skipping so fast
The audience wondered if Brodie would last.
Angry Dance showed he wasn't bereft
The red mist descended, there was lots of life left
The audience drew breath as the curtain came down
A half-time drink, but no sorrows to drown.
Dream Ballet with Barnaby was exquisite, I'd say
Poise and balance from both on display
A breather for Brodie, for just a short while
Before taking Scabs' money, my, what a pile.
At the Audition scene, once the tape had been wound
Some clapping was heard, it made a good sound
And so to Electricity, what was in store?
Ballet supreme and a board flip finish, what's more.
An ovation for Brodie at the first curtain call
But really and truly an ovation for all
Special mention of Ruthie, a star through and through
One with great understanding and lots of heart too.
The whole cast were on song right from the start
The audience too, that played its part
Brodie's performance was one so pure
We all went home happy, of that I am sure.

Excellent review John! Thank you for that.
Re: February, 2015 Reviews
Now that the rugby Six Nations Tournament has begun it will be interesting to see if the Boys in Green can retain the title. Can anyone stop them? Who knows, but there was no stopping the boy in red who danced a powerhouse Angry Dance in Thursday’s matinee, namely Ollie Jochim, aka William Elliot, Esquire. The Six Nations is, confusingly enough, sponsored, by RBS but it was a different RBS that 'wor Billy was aiming to tackle. It took quite some time to bring about his Dad’s conversion and there was lots of scrummaging and mauls along the way but Billy finally got across the line in glory.
There was so much to admire about Ollie’s performance. Right from the kickoff he set about a pattern of play that had even the referee on his side and plenty of admirers from the sidelines, not to mention those above in the stands. Always keeping his eye on the ball, his meticulously articulate and commanding voice coupled with consummate and captivating acting skills ensured that the spectators knew what he was all about. Never one to rush his lines and not afraid to pause for effect. Classic example of this was in the scene with Connie in front of the Solidarity police line. This may only be a small scene but both his and the wonderful Connie’s timing and facial expressions went straight between the posts.
All of the big gameplays were completed with strength and balance. Besides the aforementioned fantastic Angry Dance, he absolutely nailed the ballet Electricity and you could see his own sense of achievement by the ear-to-ear smile that appeared as he touched down. The smile that said, YES!! No need for the TMO here. A thousand or so pairs of eyes and clapping hands agreed. We still had some anxious moments, though, before the final whistle but all was well that ended well.
Tomi Fry’s well-thought-out flamboyant Michael twisted and turned through our defences and set up rucks of tears, both of the laughter and sad variety. Tomi says so much with his eyes and this was seen to powerful advantage as the ref signalled the end of the game.
The game-within-a-game (Ballet Girls v Billy) was a tough battle in itself and, whilst the BG’s lorded it for a while, it was Billy’s victory in the end. However, the BG’s were very gracious and recognised that the better man won.
Watching Ollie’s Billy interpretation progress to this level has been an absolute pleasure. It has provided so much enjoyment for me and so many thousands of people. I think I would be correct in saying that THAT smile yesterday told us that he is enjoying it every bit as much and that’s giving me a lot more satisfaction than I’d get even if the Boys in Green beat the “Auld Enemy” at Lansdowne Road in March.
