Being that NYC was an intermediate stop between Lancaster PA and Boston, I stopped by TKTS in Times Square and nabbed a ticket to see the closing performance of An American in Paris yesterday October 9. Even though this was initially on my list of shows not to see since the national tour kicks off in Boston in a couple weeks, I ended up at the Palace Theatre anyway. And absolutely no regrets for having seen it on Broadway. For one thing, Stephen Hanna has apparently had a featured role as Lise's Ballet Partner and according to Playbill has been in the Ensemble since September 2015.

It is no wonder that this show won the Tony for Best Choreography in 2015, it is fantastic! I would not consider myself to be a balletomane since I find full ballets to be too one-dimensional, but here is another musical that utilizes ballet very effectively to punctuate the scenes and storyline just as BETM does. The individual and company dancing are spectacles to behold and it is hard to go wrong with music and lyrics by the Gershwins. Story is on the light side, but still this is on the recommended list for any BETM fan.
