Easington

Post by Real Geordie »

Durham Heritage Coast are organising a Billy Elliot Walk on Saturday 27th May. This appears to be a "one off" event. I think that this is something which could possibly be developed over time if there is enough support and imagination, catering for small groups of fans visiting the area by prior arrangement. Maybe it could be developed as a source of some income for the community ? Ham and pease pudding stotties anyone ?

This should have been done (as a regular event ) a long time ago
I went to Easington Colliery in 2001 just before they pulled down Billy's house and went to the small miners museum in the "welfare hall" but they did not know much about the locations they also said that they preferred that the film was not made there as it brought back bad memories
Don't forget, not all locations were in Easington.
Easington is too far to travel to and from in one day from where I live and I haven't got the time to stay for a few days at short notice
If any forum member goes on this walk could they make a report for the forum please?

The children have focussed on three key themes, mining heritage, Billy Elliot and the beach Claire Young
