Ballet Girls - International Tour

Post by porschesrule »

There's a nice story on her hometown newspaper's website in Fredericksburg, VA this morning about 2nd National Tour ballet girl, Regan Haley, who will play Tracey Atkinson in the show, beginning at the end of the month in Durham, NC.

That makes Regan the second native Virginian in the company. Faith Prince is the first. :D

She had a coach help her with the Geordie dialect, which sounds more Scottish or Irish than British.

Hmm ...

As a non-British person, I can tell you that I once actually asked a person with a strong Newcastle accent if he was Scottish, and he cheerfully corrected me, explaining that the proximity to the Scottish border accounted for the confusion, so I can see where this comment comes from. Also, as I recall, Gary Lewis, who played Billy's dad in the film, is actually Scottish, and his accent, while very similar to those of the other characters in the film, seemed a bit stronger to me than the others.

New Jersey native Danielle Znutas, who plays ballet girl Sharon Percy in the 2nd Tour cast, is featured in an article today at northjersey.com. Quite an accomplished young lady:

A nice article about Ballet Girl/Swing/Debbie U/S Samantha Blaire Cutler. When you read the extract below it makes you realise just how talented these youngsters are.
Since last summer, Samantha has been an understudy cast member, ready to go on stage at a moment's notice. Her role is called “small swing,” which covers multiple chorus parts. She rehearses and attends every performance and must be able to swing from one part to another whenever she's called upon.

Rehearsals began last August with the tour kicking off last October in Durham, N.C.

Earlier this year, in the middle of a performance in Charlotte, one of the regular cast members suddenly got a nosebleed. Word was sent that Samantha was needed pronto.

Samantha said she literally ran to the dressing room, put on her costume and returned to the stage just in time for “Solidarity,” a complex and stirring scene where ballet girls and policemen fighting with striking miners are singing and dancing.

“I was a little nervous at first because I didn't know it was coming, but it was one of the tracks I had rehearsed so I knew what to do,” said Samantha, whose mother, Dr. Kim Goldman, happened to be in the audience at the time.

That is an excellent article. My hat is off Samantha and to all the swings. I would be a nervous wreck trying to keep up with every single track I might have to do. :?
