Did I count four boxing boys doing their press ups?
Michael, Tall Boy, Small Boy and ....... In-Between Boy?

In the Icelandic production there were like 6-7 boys at the boxing practice (basicly every younger member of the ensemble)kport wrote:Did I count four boxing boys doing their press ups?

It made boxing look more popular activity

Also the Oslo production 'used' all available boys and two disguised adults for the boxing scene: SB, TB, PB, Michael, Billy and two adults. It seems, along with the norwegian set, they also took some advise / ideas from the Oslo show.

But surely, in that scene, Billy, Michael and Small Boy make it abundantly clear to George that this boxing class (and George!) is not popular! That sets up the next scene: Billy's first attraction to ballet, and his rejection of his dad's aspirations for him.
Well, this is a different take................perhaps it works.......

I always thought it was an expectation from all the boys to go boxing. All dads wanted their sons to be involved a manly sport, like boxing. So having more boys fits my imagination perfectlykport wrote:But surely, in that scene, Billy, Michael and Small Boy make it abundantly clear to George that this boxing class (and George!) is not popular! But BETM (both the film and the musical) are unique in making absolutely no reference to any peer criticism or peer expectation - I always wondered just what Billy and Michael has to contend with at their school. It is totally omitted - hence I see no reason to interject it in the boxing scene (it was not done in the film, nor in the musical to date). Why have Billy and Michael's peers appear just once? It would be an unnecessary anomaly to me; leaving me asking why they did not appear at other times in the story.Darth_Revan wrote:I always thought it was an expectation from all the boys to go boxing. Also, I love the cutout they have for anyone to put their head in and "be" Billy for photos.
