Bibliography re: male gender & ballet research

Post by Eltonjohn »

Here's some relatively recent (academic) thinking (writing) about some notions of masculinity as related to male involvement in ballet. Just want to catalogue it all in one handy spot for future reference, if that is permissible, since

1) it is an issue that confronts many developing male dancers and the academic literature can be a useful resource if one learns or knows how to source and utilize it to advantage

2) the theme is obliquely discussed or referred to in this forum from time to time as it is a component of the artistic work, so academic contributions can help to inform us perhaps

One article from 2011 makes explicit reference to the 'BE Effect', that is, the supposition or observed phenomenon that BE and BETM have had a positive, stimulative impact on boys' enrollment in ballet training programs, more notably in England, Australia and Canada.
