Hamburg, Germany, June 28-July 23, 2017

Post by CJ-Rochester »

The UK tour will go to Hamburg from June 28 to July 23, 2017. Hamburg appears to be the end of the line for the tour, per this Instagram post from Jeroen Luiten, resident choreographer:

It is reminiscent of the finale of the last Tour - ending up in Brazil.

There would appear to be two performances each Saturday and Sunday - great for a week-end visit - with single performances the rest of the week excluding Monday. It seems to be a very large theatre with variable layouts. I suspect there may be many visitors from surrounding countries with experience of BETM - the Scandinavian nations and Netherlands come to mind. Fascinating to see who from the current cast will tour there.

I wonder whether Brexit will affect this tour in any way - or will present arrangements (free rights to work in the EU for UK citizens springs to mind) still exist?

It will not have any impact whatsoever - and probably not for another year or two either. The formal process (Article 50) has not been triggered yet, and this is simply the starting point for up to two years negotiation.

I am so excited by this!!! Even thoigh I would love to see a German production some day, seeing the English original is even better (don't know how they would translate it  )

Hoever, if it is really true that Hamburg will be the last stop, I must say that it is an unfortunate decision, in my opinion. I thought the same, when the American Tour ended in Sao Paolo - sure foreign audiences will also love it, I mean how can you not, but will they really appreciate it enough to have the final stop there? Most audience members will know very little about the Tour...well, probably many fans will be there for the last show but still...I don't know if I make myself clear.

Thanks Lola!!

I know where you are coming from and the points you make are good ones.

Many UK shows have had successful trips to Germany recently - Miss Saigon, Cats, Starlight express to name a few. So there are definite precedents that the BETM producers will have acted on. Also, Hamburg is a large cosmopolitan city so I think there will be a sizeable proportion of it's population who will have a reasonable fluency in English. How they cope with the North East accents will be another matter though!!

BETM producer Jon Finn said in a recent interview (see my post in chat section) that most of the existing cast are going so that is reassuring.

I would book your tickets soon if you are interested as I noticed they were selling well when I booked mine last night. I'm going to the last show on 23 July. Cost was just over 100 euro, but there are some for as little as around 40 euro. The link on the official BETM tour facebook page worked okay and there is a tab button to change the website language to English. My UK credit card was accepted without problems.
