This is very sad news:
Ocean State Theatre Co, Inc. (OSTC) announced suddenly Tuesday evening they will be closing their doors immediately.

The popular theatre located on Jefferson Blvd, said ongoing financial struggles has forced the doors to close, to cancel its summer programs, and suspend the fall mainstage season.

After a late night board meeting Monday evening, OSTC which was re-done from an empty garage and office space back in 2012, said terms relating to a new lease and debt structure could not be reached with the owner of the building.

“It was a heartbreaking decision for those of us who are passionate about OSTC,” said Andrew Cohen, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ocean State Theatre Company. “Particularly after what is undoubtedly the best artistic season we have ever had.”

I hope this is true. It is a remarkable modern theatre, converted from (of all things) a car dealership. It deserves to be resurrected.

I hope this story is true. It is a remarkable small, modern theatre. It deserves being kept alive.

Another RI theatre is offering to accept tickets to cancelled Ocean State Theatre shows to see one of its productions. Not a perfect solution, but at least some ticketholders can opt to see some theatre and get some value for what they spent on the Ocean State Theatre ticket.

Good for them! I see they are putting on The Hunchback of Notre Dame in October:
