Question about the miners in the movie

Post by lcbenson116 »

Hello,
If anyone can answer a question I have about the miners in the movie,
please and thank you.
What are the miners giving to the man standing in front of the elevator filled with men at the end of the movie, before they go in and he shuts the gates and pushes the bell?
It sounds like coins jingling? Anyone who knows I'm appreciative. Mrs. Benson USA

They were tokens or discs collected and hung on a tally board at the start of each shift, collected at the end of the shift. Each disc bore identification details personal to each miner. This was vital when rescue services needed to know how many men, and who, were underground during an emergency. The link explains the history and different usage of these tokens.
