This afternoon the children's and youth cast of 'Billy Elliot' was presented at the Teatre Victòria , an acclaimed musical with music created by Elton John that has triumphed in Madrid for three seasons with SOM Produce. After the summer it arrives in Barcelona with a new production and an almost entirely Catalan cast. Sixty very young actors, dancers and singers have offered this Tuesday an aperitif of what this production will be. "In Catalonia there is a lot of talent, we have seen it in castings", Marcos Cámara has highlighted after the performance of the boys and girls who ended up filling the stage to dance a special number. The production will premiere on October 9 and will run throughout the season, "it is the only way to amortize it," says the producer.Barcelona will be the only city in Spain where it will be performed , without the possibility of an extension or subsequent tour.Minors can't perform more than two days a week, which is why the cast of 'Billy Elliot' is so huge. It requires 60 young people who perform and dance from classical dance to jazz and tap dancing. Veteran choreographer Coco Comín works with them. "I am very excited to be here in the theater. We have been rehearsing for two years," explains Pol, a 14-year-old boy who is one of the interpreters who plays the protagonist Billy Elliot, that humble boy of extraction who exchanges boxing for classic dance. Confinement raised fear for the worst. The project has been delayed for a year. The girls also have a lot of prominence. Berta, an 11-year-old girl who has been going to dance classes since she was 4 years old, has touched the sky with the role of Debbie, the daughter of the dance teacher, an honor for her. "There are a lot of choreographies. I had never tapped before and I love it!", she acknowledges. The pace of work doesn't seem to matter to them. These little artists give it their all, their parents too. They have to organize their life by coordinating trips and rehearsals. Both Berta and other members of the cast study at Oriol Martorell, a school that offers integrated studies and allows combining artistic education with the academic curriculum.
