Yeah, I'm confused by this, unless it's a placeholder while they plead with Spielberg for the rights.

According to this article the movie will premier on Disney+, probably in 2022.

These photos on Twitter show a crew dressing up the New Amsterdam Theater, home of "ALADDIN", with "Lilo and Stitch: the Musical" posters. Thus confirming the change from "ET: the Musical" as in the book.

Wow! I'm a huge fan of the books and of Tim Federle himself (the HSM TV series is as hilarious as it is fantastic, by the way). Seeing that they dressed up an actual Disney theatre for this too tells me it will be a fantastic production. I cannot recommend the books highly enough. Tim is a genius!

Here's some exciting news about casting. "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow will play Aunt Heidi in the movie.

This is excellent casting! Aunt Heidi is very weird but fiercely supportive of Nate and his dreams, and I'm sure Lisa will play her to perfection! Have to say too that with all Tim's experience on the High School Musical TV franchise, not to mention Billy Elliot The Musical, he should prove to be great at casting the lead too. The whole movie/potential franchise of movies will rest on one brilliant child performer's shoulders, but I have all the confidence in the world that Tim will find the right kid!

Casting for the principle child roles in the movie has been announced. Newcomer Rueby Wood will play Nate. Aria Brooks plays Libby, and Joshua Bassett plays Nate's brother Anthony.

Here's the trailer for the movie, which streams on Disney+ as of April 1st. It looks like they've changed quite a bit from the book, but this looks great!
