Maybe there is an aspect of space and weight issue, as these items have to be contained in a small area and go up and down.

I suppose another angle is who to say that they did not move in with Grandma rather than her come and live with them.

I know my Gran had to be held back when we got her a new oven. She was happy with her old one (although possible was going to blow up the house at any moment :o ) , she was of the opinion if it aint broke don't fix it and why waster money, regardless of times moving on. So many of the items in the house maybe have been hers.
