Jez Lowe: authentic music from the Northeast of England

Post by LiamM »

When Billy Elliot the film was in development, one of the people considered to make the sound track for the movie was Jez Lowe, a well-known musician from the Northeast of England. Jez is an authentic Geordie and his music beautifully captures the culture of the Northeast.

Jez is on an American tour right now. Anyone interested in the world Billy Elliot comes from will want to see Jez perform. His song "Big Meeting Day" is about the gala day, which is depicted in the opening newsreel footage in BETM. His song "The Judas Bus" speaks of the hate miners had for the scabs, nearly a re-enactment of the Pit Gates scene from BETM. Numerous other songs refer to stories from the mines, family life, racing whippets, growing leaks, and, yes, pissing one's wages up the wall.

Don't miss him if he comes near you. Check start times with the venue.

Jez regularly tours in the UK, either alone or with his band, The Bad Pennies.
