Regarding the 'Broadway canon' review quote, perhaps she meant shows that have become frequently produced standards, such as West Side Story, Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Oliver!, etc.? There have been a number of shows that were quite popular when written, that haven't stood the test of time. I personally think that BETM will be around for a long time - since it's already written as a 1980's period piece, it won't become dated as quickly as a modern-era set show might.

I was looking at ticket prices for the 23rd, thinking perhaps of swinging by on my way to my sisters, but the prices shown were double what I've paid elsewhere - are they rate surfing the holiday crowd, or are all the tour tickets $200-$350?

Those prices are too high. There are ticket deals out there. I have posted a couple in the Ticketing thread for the Second Tour here: http://www.billyelliottheforum.me.uk/fo ... =87&t=2332

I have just checked through the Official Billy Elliot site, and the link to ticketmaster shows the highest priced orchestra ticket as $150, including fees, for the 2:00 matinee on the 23rd, and other tickets ranging from $49.00 up.

They're rate surfing - all of xmas week is jacked up to double normal prices, they drop back to normal on the 26th.

Moot point now, looking like snow coming through again Thursday, and I know better than to try and plan that tight of an arrival time when the snow's flying. Last year, a trip that normally takes six hours took nearly ten (including 20 minutes in a ditch)... I'm not paying double for a ticket I might not be in time to use!

Sunday matinee, however.... 8-)

You beat me to it, porschesrule! I was posting the same review, but you got there first. Interestingly, I said exactly the same thing about it: "mixed review." 8-) :D

Just curious....are there any forum members in/near Minneapolis who are planning on going and giving us a review? Or are any other forum members planning on flying (or sledding!) there to see the show? I'm anxious to get an impression from one of us in addition to the "professional" critics. :)

Inspired:
I am booked to see three shows New Years weekend in Minneapolis. Simply can't wait. As I posted somewhere else earlier, this will have allowed me to see the show in Chicago [too many times to remember]; London, and NYC, all, within a span of less than a year. Will be glad to offer my unprofessional feelings regarding the Minneapolis performances once I return to Indiana following that weekend. [Will also be seeing two more performances in NY in mid-January]. I can say off the top of my head, that no matter where I see the show I'm always deeply moved and thrilled with the performances. I expect no less than the same in ten days. See you all after the New Year. Regards, Colin

This Ed guy who wrote this garbage about Michael and the show needs to go back to taking the trash out and shoveling the snow from around his head. Ed seems to spend most of his time watching Dancing with the Stars, or Rambo movies and reruns of Gilligan's Island. When he walked into the show he must have asked where the draft beer and the rasslin ring was.
