It is an odd review. Half of it is full of praise - for the performers. The other half criticizes the book, the music and the overall 'feel'. OK, so this reviewer thinks the book and the score are weak. Others have made the same point without being nasty. But he praises the performances in equal measure. So why weight the article in such a negative and nasty way?

I think he was having a bad day. Traffic in Ft Lauderdale can make you that way.

It's always a mistake to expect BETM to be a replay of the film. The reviewer knew that but he still could not evaluate the musical on its own merits.

Here's a brief, but positive review from the Palm Beach Post, posted today.

Not sure where this reviewer saw the show as she says she saw Ty Forhan as Billy and he hasn't yet performed in any of the three shows in Ft. Lauderdale:

It really isn't a review; more of a rehash of dozens of reviews that have come before. I could do the same with a Playbill, this forum and a bit of luck. I would bet this reviewer never saw the show. It is more common than you might think - a quick way to fill the 'news'.
