A great article, with fantastic photos, 'Behind the Set' on the filming of 'Cherry on Top':
There is a lovely tribute about Drew in there, too, if you read on. Really nice. And deserved.

Young singers/dancers/actors need to build up a portfolio for future work.
Imagine....from Iowa to BETM......then a video, and a comment like this from someone in 'the biz'.....and you are.....what......14?
Crumbs! This lad is focused.................
And, do you know something......if people say you are so focused, so professional, and so bloody nice..as you progress.....then you are well on the way to achieving the goals set out by Rudyard Kipling in his seminal poem, 'If' :

Stay focused like a laser, Drew..and Congratulations! If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

At first I wondered about the virile hair arrangement, but by the climax of the studio scene it became apparent.

Wasn't this the name of a progressive rock band from the late '60's in the tradition of The Velvet Underground ?
Re: Drew Minard - Billy
No idea.
I was thinking more along the lines of debonair matinee idols of yesteryear, like Clark Gable and Eroll Flynn... with their slicked backed hair, penetrating eyes and arresting good looks.
Drew's hair does not appear to be arranged like what might be considered typical for contemporanious boys his age in general or ballet boys in particular, if you ask me. (Does anyone know how he would normally comb his hair? Any recent pics?)
Nothing in music videos is left to chance, so his styling was selected intentionally and was meant to reflect the plot line of the vignette, IMHO.

Well, Oh Land's hair is blue, so you can draw your own conclusions from that, I suppose.

Re: Drew Minard - Billy
But the song is actually about a boy who focuses on dance TOO much and ignores friends and life(based on the singers ballet training befor she hurt her back) Ironic huh.kport wrote:Young singers/dancers/actors need to build up a portfolio for future work.

I WAS distracted by the change in Drew's hair in the last part, I'd swear it was way longer there, probably meant to be literally less slicked back and more free then the studio part. I'm preety sure every music vid with ballet or tap I've seen was done in that studio lol(slight exaggeration)

Drew's brother, Grant, has tweeted that he's at Drew's first ever Off-Broadway play tonight. It's called The Beautiful Dark and it's playing at TBG Studio Theatre, 312 West 36th Street, floor 3, NY, NY from April 23 through May 18, 2014.
