It's official: BETM will come to the Netherlands
Re: It's official: BETM will come to the Netherlands
This is quite interesting: BETM auditions sung in Dutch in a sort of Dutch 'Finding Billy' promo.
The caption translates as 'A piece of SBS 6 Show News on Monday, September 9th "looking for Billy Elliot" which shows Tydo as he sings a bit. '

It looks as though we are going to be hearing a lot about the new Billy Elliot sCool.

wish we could see more of the audition process. I always thought the audition process for Billy in general would make for a really cool documentary, moreso than just a bonus feature on the movie's dvd.

I find this audition process interesting. Using the closed caption translator and limited foreign language skills, I believe Maurice said they will need at least 10 Billys. A tall order, but he did say previously that he was very pleased with the talent at the first audition.

Did you notice London's MD, Chris Hatt, accompanying the boy singer at 2.30, and Julian Webber sitting on the panel?

Yes. This will be as professional a production as the original. Maybe that's why it took so long for Billy Elliot The Musical to come to The Netherlands. The creators wanted to be sure that the production would be only the highest quality.

I showed this video to a friend who lives in the Netherlands. He is another BETM fan but not a member of the forum. We met a couple of times at the New York show, including the closing weekend. Here is his response to me after he viewed the video:

This confirms MichaelJ's translation that they are looking for at least 10 Billys. Also it seems these two boys are not the "chosen ones", at least not yet.Nothing much special. They are first looking into if they can find enough Billy's, so they select kids to go to billy camp. The 2 kids you saw are thru to the Billy camp after their first audition. So no show yet. The problem in Holland is you need much more kids than in the USA to do the show ( about 10/12 ).

Others on this Forum thread have commented on The Netherlands' strict child labor laws. Here again is a link:

With London ticking over quite well with three or four Billys, the proposed Dutch venture will be quite different, if up to ten boys rotate in the role. How will adult actors cope with coordinating with so many different Billys? It will certainly be interesting to see.
