Just to add a bit about the Edison Cafe. There was some discussion a while back about how it was closed for a period because of loss of refrigeration, and people were skeptical about the Health Dept. allowing it to reopen. Well, at that time, I went to the NYC Health Dept. site where you can check the ratings of every restaurant in the city, and guess what? The Edison had one of the highest sanitation ratings on the list on Manhattan restaurants--higher than Sardi's for example. I haven't checked it lately, but don't discount this place. Fine dining it ain't, but it's a great place to eat.

I moved your post into this thread, ss, because it is where you can find all kinds of suggestions. Take a look around. :D

My most recent stay was at the Comfort Inn Theatre District. I would recommend it. Excellent location.

The thing about hotel rooms in NY is that the prices fluctuate according to day of the week and season, as they do in many other places as well, so you need to keep that in mind when deciding when to visit.

We try to keep the forum organized, but as you can see, it's really huge, so one of the best ways to find what you want is to make use of the SEARCH tab at the top of the screen. That can help you zero in on what you need when you don't quite know where to look. Hope that helps. :D

I stayed at the Econo Lodge Times Square last month for my mini-Billy fest and was very happy with it. For a single it was just $112 inclusive (on a Saturday night). The room was very tiny, but if you understand that going in, it's not a big deal. And it's a fantastic location - very close to the Imperial.

I have often found it best to start with a search for hotels on Travelocity or Expedia. They will at least clue you in as to the range of rates for the time you are going. Also it seems like the earlier you book the better rate you can get.

When are you planning to go shimmyshimmy? I know of several fans who will be there the week of April 12-17. I am trying to find a reason that I might have to be in NYC for work that week. ;)

I'm going in about two weeks. I reserved the Paramount Hotel. It looks nice.

I am going to be in NY in July and I need a reasonably priced hotel near Times Square for a few days.

I've been looking at the Hotel Carter which seems a bargain. Has anybody ever stayed there or heard any comments about it?
