First, many thanks for finding and posting those reports about the ABT Gala and David A's part. I do, however, wish the reviewer would have said something a little more descriptive than David was "cute as a button." And, I disagree with the reviewer hat it is inappropriate to showcase the students as pasrt of the program. Since this was a fundraiser for the ballet school, it is very appropriate, even required, to give them a glimpse of what they are making possible.

As for the photo of Trent, Kiril and David at the MTC event, it caused me some alarm. Trent and David look exhausted and Kiril's face looks thin. I hope these kids are getting enough rest and good nutrition!

This dance review was in the New York Times today, about the "gala wrap-up" of the year for the School of American Ballet. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/03/arts/ ... &ref=dance

Included in the performance was a dance by "the very young," ages 9 - 15. Wasn't David in this performance? If so, the reviewer didn't know it or mention it. Although, I recall that the same performance at their May 18 event had a reviewer writing that David had a lead part and "was cute as a button." Did anyone see this Monday night?

It is my understanding that David Alvarez is a student at the American Ballet Theater School (The Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School, which is linked to ABT), not at the School of the American Ballet, which is linked to New York City Ballet. ABT gained the rank of National Company and has a pure classical repertoire wherears NYCB is more contemporary and its choreographies are based on Balanchine's works and technique.

I hope I clarify your confusion.

The final installment of the We Are Billy Elliot series features David A.
He talks about the camaraderie the cast has built up. Great interview David!

Thank you, Joh/Redstar for the clarification. I knew the ABT school is the Jacqueline K Onassis School, but didn't know the name of the NY City Ballet School. I assumed that the reviewer was using shorthand for the American Ballet Theater's school by writing the School of the American Ballet. It is a bit confusing if you're not entrenched in it. Thanks, too for explaining the variation in style and focus between the schools.
