Shocktube

Post by ERinVA »

Has anyone else encountered this trash? All of a sudden, every youtube link that I have opened from my google reader page has been hacked by something called shocktube, showing women in bikinis.

I have flagged a couple of them, but I don't think this is going to stop the problem. Does anyone else have a suggestion? :?

This has been a issue cropping up in the last 6 months or so especially if you are using g-reader in Chrome. I have not noticed or heard of this issue happening yet in Firefox. You are doing all you can do by flagging the inappropriate link so Google will be encouraged to make a fix.

I don't use Chrome. I just use regular old IE. But this is the first time I have had the problem.

The only other thing that I can think of that may solve your problem is to empty the cache for IE. Here is a link explaining the procedure: http://www.wcnet.org/support/wc/iecache.php

I hope this helps :) .

Thanks. I'll try that and see what happens.
I just realized that this occurred right after I downloaded a new version of Google toolbar.

Uninstall Google Toolbar then reinstall it if you really want it. If that don't work, unistall IE and reinstall it. Better yet install Firefox. It's much more secure than IE. You can transfer all your bookmarks during install. You can get it here:

http://download.cnet.com/mozilla-firefo ... entBody;1d

I also recommend getting ccleaner for free to periodically clean out your cache and registry. It does a great job keeping your computer squeaky clean. Get it here:

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=mncol;1

Under the Windows and Applications tabs you can check all the boxes except the last one under the Windows tab that says Wipe Free Space. It's ok to do it, but it takes literally forever if you have a lot of free space on your hard drive. If you want to wipe the free space, make sure you have a few hours away from the computer. It's no big deal if you don't do it though. Then click on the Registry tab on the left and scan for issues. You will have some registry issues. Go ahead and click Fix Issues. It will ask you to save your registry keys. Go ahead and save them somewhere like your desktop then you can delete it later when you know that everything is running smoothly. Under Options / Settings it's already configured for Normal File Deletion. That's good enough.

I also recommend Ad-Aware. You will have some spyware on your computer. You didn't know it. Get it here:

http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free- ... ag=mncol;1

AND Malwarebytes. It will find junk that Ad-Aware won't:

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-A ... ag=mncol;1

Clean it up. Go go go!!! :D

I agree with absolutely everything dongringo says except:

I would exercise caution on this one. Registry Cleaners can be lethal unless you know exactly what you are removing and, although cc is regarded highly and rightly so, my advice is that you do not use it unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing.

That's why you check the boxes of what you want cleaned up. I agree, if you don't know what it is, don't check the box, especially under Advanced, but most of it is self-explanatory and I've never had a problem with it. Ccleaner is regarded highly for a reason.

I got rid of google toolbar. It had been giving me problems anyway--some kind of weirdo connection with yahoo messenger that caused my google reader bookmark to leave a "ghost" in the middle of other pages unless I exited messenger. 8-) So far, since I uninstalled the toolbar, google reader has not been giving me that problem. I have not had any links to youtube videos to try out yet, but I will let you know what happens when I do.
