The way hotel prices in NYC are soaring, camping might soon be an attractive option.

Worried about seeing a watered-down version of Billy Elliot The Musical on the tour? See a better version on Broadway, and combine it with a RV vacation in New Jersey near The Statue of Liberty. This RV park has utilities, lots to do, and great public transportation(boat or train) to NYC. Open year-round, and tent sites available for $44/night.

We can recommend Liberty Island RV Park for those visiting NYC:

We have stayed there several times. It is not cheap (About $65/night), but is close to the PATH train that leads right into downtown. It has full facilities including a dump station, and on a good day has a view of the Statue of Liberty.

Great view, and no bedbugs in your own RV.

Camping at Liberty Island RV or Gateway National Recreation Area is perfect for students and young people who can bring a tent and save a fortune over a hotel in Manhattan. Under $50/night.

Older folks, like most of us, prefer more creature-comforts. I rented a camping van for my first trip far from home. We got a rental car from the airport for one day to go to the motorhome rental site, got checked out on the rental and returned the car. Best vacation ever! No checking in and out of hotels and no living out of one suitcase. Microwave, fridge and stove. No fleas or bedbugs. After we returned home, we went out and bought our first motorhome. By the way, we parked our motorhome around the side street at the Straz Center in Tampa when we saw BETM there.

This sounds like a advertisement for "Go RVing", but it is the best way to see BETM around the country and on Broadway. You can rent at home and drive to NYC, but there is a mileage charge, so that is very expensive. But if four or more people are going, it could be the cheapest way.

Fly to your vacation, and pick up your rental RV and you can save a long drive both ways. You probably will be hooked on RV travel when you return.

Due to heavy flooding, any leaf-peeping combined with a Billy Elliot(Broadway) hit is not a good idea this year. But a casino vacation in Atlantic City still works with a trip to NYC. Philadelphia is also not affected by the flooding, and the Metrobus or Bolt Bus, or the train, is an easy ride to Broadway.

Best of all is Virginia Beach. The Neptune Festival has many activities. My favorite is the Oceana Naval Base Airshow from September 23rd to the 25th. Return home by way of New York City, or catch BETM before the airshow weekend. Only a hurricane can ruin this perfect vacation, but there is pleanty of warning, days in advance.

Attendance at Billy Elliot The Musical in New York is way down. Fall is the perfect time to vacation in the Northeast. Put these two facts together and help save the Broadway show from an early demise. Vacation in or around NYC and see BETM one or more times before heading home. A win-win situation.
