Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry has attacked the “incredible indifference” of local politicians after Camden council approved a “grotesque” office development.

The film and theatre veteran — best known for his work on Billy Elliot and The Crown — said residents in a quiet courtyard of Victorian social housing near King’s Cross were left feeling “powerless and humiliated” when the scheme was given consent last week.

The British director also has three Oscar nominations for Billy Elliot, The Hours, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

It comes after he was beaten last year by The Handmaid Tale’s Reed Morano – a familiar tale for the Netflix drama, which lost out to the Hulu series in a number of key categories.
