There is a link to the online version of the story, including a photo, from The Stage posted by kport on the previous page of this thread. I don't know if that is actually the same photo that made the front page or not, however.

It looks to be the same article, but a different picture. Here's a link to a photo:

If you search thestage.co.uk for "ann emery", you will get two articles.

In one of them:

"Emery described the cast as a “family” and said she had been given a send-off at the end of last year, where speeches were made and she was presented with framed pictures from her time in the production."

Hurrah!! Very sad that her back has had "enough"... I know I could never have too much of Ann Emery as Grandma... but until I saw the things in The Stage (thank you, BETF posters!!), it was worrying... Why had she left? WAS she given a "proper send-off"?

Seems she was. Whew.

Christopher Biggins has tweeted that the brilliant Ann Emery has sadly passed away.

I have looked elsewhere for confirmation of this but have not been able to find anything.

The world of British theatre has lost a great lady.

She did what she loved into her 80's. And was so kind to the children! Truly a life worth living.

Elton posted the following on Instagram:

''I am deeply saddened to hear that the incomparable Ann Emery has passed away. She created the role of 'Grandma' in 'Billy Elliot The Musical' in London. She was joyful, indomitable and massively talented. David and I adored her, and she will be greatly missed.''
