Post by porschesrule »

The Royal Shakespeare Company has just announced that it is currently planning for its production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical, to open in New York early 2013.

Another announcement from The Daily Torygraph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/thea ... adway.html

(I hope this eventually goes on Tour in the US/CA. It really is the best new musical since BETM. Now that Networks has cracked the way to make it financially sound, they should take this one on, too, and I hope Nora Brennan gets to cast the kids.

It will be 'fun' to watch the 'self-righteous' scream when they delve into some of Tim Minchin's other songs and stand up/piano comedy routines. Google some for examples. They are either hilarious - or offensive - depending upon one's 'standards'. They are certainly 'adult'. But he is exceptionally talented.)

Today the National Public Radio show, On Point, was a rebroadcast of a 2010 program about Roald Dahl. Of course, this was before there was an inkling of Matilda the Musical, either in London or on Broadway, but the program is very interesting. Matilda the Musical has announced Equity auditions for children's roles. Of particular note to Billy Elliot fans is that Nora Brennan is handling children's casting and Peter Darling is the Choreographer. With Nora and Peter involved, I think there's a good possibility we may see some Billy Elliot kids who meet the age and size requirements in this production slated to open in early 2013.

Given the descriptions in the casting notice, I think many of the Billy Elliot kids will have outgrown these roles by next year. Still, having Nora Brennan and Peter Darling involved gives a lot of confidence that this show will have an excellent cast. :D
