Let's hope BETM has success - it may be the last year until it reappears under 'Best Revival'. I would expect 'The Book of Mormon' to have a good chance next year.

The 2013 Olivier Awards will be held this year on April 28th. The event (which will include the awarding of the 2013 BBC Radio 2 Audience Award) will be held at the Royal Opera House.

As part of the festivities, while the show goes on in the Royal Opera House, the public is invited to a very special event taking over the Covent Garden piazza, where there will be music, entertainment and a live stream of events inside. On the piazza, live performances from shows including Billy Elliot The Musical, Matilda The Musical, The Phantom Of The Opera, Wicked, Burn The Floor, Potted Potter and Some Like It Hip Hop will take place.

ITV have confirmed the time they will broadcast highlights of The 2013 Olivier Awards - 10.15pm-11.45pm this Sunday. The highlights will also be available on ITV Player.

Don't forget, you can listen to the awards ceremony live on BBC Radio 2 from 6pm-10pm, hosted by Ken Bruce and Anneka Rice.

I'm fortunate enough to be attending the awards on Sunday and looking forward to a great night. Let's just hope my ugly mug doesn't end up on Television as it was bad enough I was in the background of the 4millionth customer video at the VP ;)

Thanks Sean

and cheers Gary, really made me laugh. I've still got a long way to go to catch up with Spencer when it comes to being in the background of videos and photographs

The Olivier Awards used to be televised either live or as highlights on mainstream TV channels in the UK until 2003.
The last coverage of the awards on mainstream TV was on BBC2 in 2003.
Coverage stopped due to falling ratings and lack of interest from Broadcasters and indeed lack of interest in the early 2000's from viewers.

It was only in 2011 when the BBC decided to show highlights of the awards(main awards only) on the Interactive Red Button service did the ceremony receive its first TV coverage since 2003. That coverage was hosted by Radio 2 and was more like a radio broadcast than a TV programme. In 2012 the ceremony was covered in full by the BBC again but only on the Red Button service and not on a mainstream TV channel in the UK.

BBC Radio has always covered the awards live as they are doing this year on Radio 2, but the BBC decided not to proceed with television coverage this year via the Red Button or any other means, mainly because of financial cutbacks including reducing the number of streams on the Red Button to just one.

Therefore, ITV agreed a deal with SOLT (Society of London Theatre) who are responsible for the awards to show a highlights package which is the first time in a decade that any coverage of the ceremony will be on one of the UK's main TV channels.

The current agreement in place is that only a highlights package can be shown on Television and only shown after the Olivier Awards ceremony is finished and the live radio broadcast is finished at 10pm, hence why ITV are showing highlights from 10.15pm.

The agreement is renewed yearly with SOLT and in the future ITV or another broadcaster could show the awards ceremony live and in full or on delayed coverage as the awards take place (as happens with the Film and TV BAFTA's) rather than coverage after the event is finished. But, I wouldn't hold out much hope as there is still a lack of interest from UK Broadcasters and ITV are 'seeing how it goes' first and obviously measuring the ratings, audience demographics and feedback before deciding to continue or not with a highlights package or indeed live coverage in future.

Cheers,
Keefy
