This probably sums it up. All touring shows seem to be hurting(probably excluding a certain show with the a "Morman" in the title) so they wont risk extending a musical that's already toured most places...ALWAYS think about the $$$ first...and middle and last. If it wont make money it wont be done. That means no Tour anymore, Broadway a WAY more no way(MUCH more expensive) and honestly how many people would watch a Billy Elliot TV show in the USA...they might have VERY well added 2+2 and got .1...I'm not being glib there, in my opinion that might be overestimating the audience here. If its not already being done in the UK(where itd cross promote with London) it wont be done here.
Working Title has already made adaptations for British tv/radio. So, if they do not do so for Billy Elliot The Musical, then they do not consider it to be a money making idea. We will only know their decision is negative if they fail to announce anything.

I don't know that the venues are really doing all that great a job of advertising. Omaha always does a great job of bringing in students and groups...they get a hell of a deal.

At Sioux Falls, they did a great job of advertising locally, but did nothing outside of the city.

BE did well in Omaha, and they even offered tickets at half off the last week. Great crowds there...therefore I think it inaccurate to judge based on numbers of attendees, rather than on gross income. With over half the seats in Sioux Falls empty, it probably would have brought in much more people to offer a promo code, albeit less income, but more people.

Granted, I don't think this past season really had many show stoppers anyway. Not like Phantom or Les Mis...

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts (Ft. Lauderdale) thinks their marketing for the February-March 2012 tour stop of BETM was so nifty, so neat and clean, they never have gotten back down to Aventura (10 miles south) to remove the admittedly glorious 3-story tall poster they affixed to the parking deck for the Promenade Shops at Gulfstream Race Track and Casino.

Sure, even though it was vertically-oriented for a three story wall, I would have taken the thing in a heartbeat, if anyone ever thought to remove it from that SW-facing corner of the US-1 side parking garage.

I think it's looking a bit tatty and worn from over a year of usage, so maybe they're just leaving it up so the paint on the garage matches and they don't have to do any touchup work. Any longer, and we'll have to assume that they're hoping it lasts till the calendar dates match up with 2-29 till 3-12 dates (oopsie, that would have to wait for the next leap year), and maybe they'd just have to install a few change plates and it would be good as new. So what year would that be?????

I just watched the show "Camp" from NBC Universal. They produced Billy Elliot The Musical on the tour. "Camp" is all about interaction between teens and adults at a camp. It will be interesting to see how it does in the ratings.

If it does well, NBC Universal, Comcast, and Working Title will be tempted to copy it's success. This would be perfect for a sequel to the Billy Elliot story, with Billy as an older teen. Dance and singing would make it even more entertaining. A perfect addition to the 2014 season.

OK, so accessmenj reminds us that we should watch every thread all the time.

I had no idea "Camp" was starting on TV, and thanks so much for alerting me (us) to it because it looks OK.

It's appalling that I had missed the show totally, but understandable due to the fact that I watch mainly reality or reality-esque programming, or anything (nearly) on HBO or Showtime. Mostly, I miss things on network TV because on the network shows, they can't swear uncontrollably, and I find too much dialogue between swearing makes me queasy.

No wonder that I am addicted to BETM as there's swearing-a-plenty, with the extra enjoyment that it's kids doing A LOT of the swearing. What could be better?

I only realized "Camp" was on just after 1 AM, but luckily I can see it on demand. Watched about 15 minutes of the first episode, and the show passed muster, even with the dearth of swearing. Hmmmmmmm, can't have everything. Oh well. Time to sleep because even BillyManiacs need to sleep eventually (excepting consecutive, serious Billython days and nights).

Hooray for the heads-up that is this BETM Forum.

Since you bring up Camp, three of the cast members were on the Australian show Dance Academy. So there is another tie in from Camp to the dance world. Maybe they'll allow the 3 characters to use their dance talents at some point!

NBC Universal, which was one of the producers of Billy Elliot The Musical, is producing a live version of The Sound Of Music for the holiday season. Let's hope that it's a success. It will no doubt be recorded, as was Les Mis. NBC/Comcast has the deep pockets to consider BETM for the 2014 holiday season, and record it for all time.
