Brad wrote: it is an example of people looking too deeply :ugeek: into something for a meaning that isn't there rather than taking it at face value - enjoyment wise :D

Anyone who has done creative writing realizes that the best themes and sub-plots are those that are partly hidden, and conveyed to the receivers without "hitting them over the head with a baseball bat". In fact, the first observation of any work of art should be for enjoyment. After multiple observations, the work can be dissected for the total appreciation of the work. So this forum is perfect for analysis, but the reasons to attend Billy Elliot The Musical remain basic:

1) it makes us feel good
2) it makes us better people

Thanks Brad that's what I was getting at.

Yes you play devil's advocate very well Ellen and have provoked many enthusiastic and spirited discussions because of it. Thanks. Thanks also for the link to " Post subject: Themes and sub-plots missed at first viewing" I am reading it with much interest and enjoyment 12 pages down 30 to go. The posts are fascinating and insightful so far.

Excellent point accessmen very well expressed.
