Tonight is the last performance of the first regional production of Million Dollar Quartet at the Ogunquit Playhouse. It has been a stunning run, and tonight it was announced that it is the largest grossing production in the 83 year history of the Playhouse, eclipsing the previous highest grossing production, Billy Elliot the Musical.

Considering that there are only eight actors, who double as the only band (no dubbing, no recorded music) , and one set, I expect it has been the most profitable show as well!

People still speak with great fondness of BETM, and hope that it will return before long.

Here is the Playhouse promo of Million Dollar Quartet:

Watching a completely packed audience, many well over 60, standing, dancing and cheering at the end like a gaggle of bobby soxers back in the day, was amazing. Standing Room Only patrons looked like they were back on Dave Clark's American Bandstand. They entered feeling old, and left feeling 18 again! If that isn't the power of live theatre - to transform the soul to a different time and place - then what is?
