West Side Story movie

Starting a separate thread for new Stephen Spielberg film adaptation of West Side Story, since there are so many former Billys in the cast. Just to recap:

Former Billy and Tony Award Winner David Alvarez will have a lead role in the film, playing Bernardo.

Former Billys Ben Cook, Julian Elia, Myles Erlick, Patrick Higgins, along with Daniel Russell, have all been cast as Jets.

Completely separate from the movie, there will also be a Broadway revival of "West Side", opening in February 2020. Casting of the new stage production has been announced. BETM connections include: Ben Cook as Riff, Daniel Oreskes as Doc, and Corey Snide in the ensemble. Congrats to all!

From the set of Steven Spielberg's film remake of West Side Story, it looks like David Alvarez as Bernardo is doing a great job; in these photos he's seen dancing with Ariana DeBose, who is playing the lead female role of Anita (originally played by Rita Moreno). This is sure in enhance David's career going forward.

WhatsOnStage reports the upcoming West Side Story film will now open in next winter. Originally meant to open in December, it is expected that the film will now arrive on 10 December 2021.
