You can knock the Duke of York off the list. It is closed, emptied and boarded up.

:(

Not that I ate there with any regularity anyway. But I have very fond memories of a couple of great get-togethers in the upstairs room.

Wow, that's terrible news. It's always been my favorite place to have a pre-show meal. I've usually had real good food there, and the convenient proximity to the theater can't be beat. Hopefully another pub/restaurant will open in its place.

Really bad news! :(
London: 27 shows (Ryan 2* - my first Billy, Dean, Kaine 4*, Adam, Redmand 4*, Harrison 3*, Harris 2*, Tade 3*, Ali 2*, Matteo, Ollie, Bradley, Nat, Euan - my last Billy)

I can´t really explain it, I haven´t got the words
It´s a feeling that you can´t control ...

Green/Blue Screens and instant scaffolding .......

Post by tzwicky »

Green/Blue Screens and instant scaffolding .......

Those DoY windows look to be covered in blue screens which predate what everyone knows today as green screen (where CGI or matte shots will be added at a later time in TV or cinema creation).

I wonder if this is related to the peculiar London "Wonder of the World" objects?

Those would be London's 2-hour (approx.) multi story scaffolding. I have literally passed a building on to way to a movie and a building seems nominal, and a couple 2 hours later pass the same building and it's got several levels of scaffolding plastered onto the front wall where none was just a short time before.

We're talking about the same building being covered in scaffolding in about 2 hours, and the scaffolding people are nowhere to be seen, either. Seems like magic when it happens, but I've actually grown accustomed to it happening, and don't even take time to marvel at it or look for hidden cameras catching the shock on newbie faces. I wonder if London scaffolding contractors work faster for premium rates? Seems quite likely.

Of course having listed buildings all over the place must have an effect on the number of "instant scaffolding" contractors.

Dunno.........

The closure of the Duke of York may have something to do with page 5, para 1.10 in this document http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/ ... rategy.pdf

Thanks for the link. This is the interesting part. 8-)
1.10 In the case of the Duke of York Public House the tunnel will from part of
the PAL (Paid Area Link, TWA Work No.4C) with the tunnel crown (top of
tunnel structure) around 6m below the ground surface (providing about
3m clearance to the basement of the building). It is likely to be
constructed using conventional tunnelling methods. The interior of this
building has been subject to extensive alteration including the removal of
a number of internal walls and it has been assessed that there is
potentially a serious risk of collapse during VSU construction were the
building not to be supported during those works. It is therefore proposed
to implement significant structural support works. These will include
extensive ground treatment within and around the footprint of the
building. The works are also likely to include underpinning and propping.
Following the completion of the VSU works it would be in order to carry
out further work as necessary such that the building would be structurally
sound.

Ah. It might return!

Does anyone know anything about rumoured refurbishment plans for the VPT? As much as I love it, I think it needs a facelift (starting with new seating!).
