Restaurant Reviews - London
I thought it would be fun to share with other Billy fans some of the places I enjoyed eating on my most recent trip to London. Especially since, unlike my trip in 2008, I only had one "bad" meal, and that was at Heathrow on the way home.

Giraffe - Wilton Rd. (among others) - This is a chain of restaurants. The one we went to was on Wilton Rd. It is not expensive and they have a great Eggs Benedict, usually, although you do need to ask them to make sure the chef toasts the muffin. The last day we were there some of us had eggs poached too long. But overall a good breakfast. They have a nice English breakfast that is not too "full". However, this is also where I had a crappy meal at Heathrow because they do not have the same menu, and no Eggs Benedict! :(

Cafe Camelo - Elizabeth Street - this place has great omelets and other breakfast food. The local construction workers eat here, so it must be good.

Weatherspoons (in Willow Walk) - Another nice place for breakfast.

Garfunkel's (we went to the one in Victoria Station) - The food here is not bad. Kind of a UK version of Denny's. But the service was slooooooww! I had a not bad fish and chips here.

Duke of York (right next to the VPT) - I had fish and chips here, and it was very good.

Belushi's (in Covent Graden, just down the street from the Drury Lane Theatre) - Had the best fish and chips of my trip here, and the people there are very nice.

Nando's (in Bresenden Place) - Another chain. Their chicken is awesome. Ate there three times on the trip. If you want chicken in London, this is the place to go.

Wagamama (in Bresenden Place) - Very nice noodle dishes.

Iberico (in Harrod's) - This place has amazing sandwiches. Spanish food, lots of Spanish hams - not cheap but I had the best sandwich of my life here!

Loco Mexicano (on Wilton Rd) - This is a Mexican restaurant, or as close as they can get to one in London. I had minted lamb fajitas. Odd but tasty! Of course, for a person who comes from the heartland of California where more than 50% of the population is Mexican, finding good Mexican food elsewhere is very tough.

McDonald's and Krispy Kreme (in Victoria Station, among others) - For McD's, a safe place to get a taste from home; for Krispy Kreme, because I can not get them where I live!

I think we have some similar tastes, Dave ! A couple of those places you mentioned - Wagamama's and the Duke of York pub - are two of my favorite places to eat in London. Also had a similar opinion of Garfunkel's in Victoria Station. Had slooooow service too (and rather rude service, at that) so I don't plan to return there again.

Another place I really like is Bella Italia (a chain). There's one right down the street from the Victoria Palace theatre, making it another handy choice for a pre-show meal. There's also one at Leicester Square with a nice outdoor patio dining area that's fun to eat at when the weather's nice and to people watch while you're eating. I usually get their pepperoni pizza, which is better than any I've had in the U.S.

Two other favorite pubs just outside of London are The Carpenter's Arms pub in Windsor, just a block away from Windsor Castle (it looks across the street from the Crooked House of Windsor) and another is The Royal Oak pub directly across the street from the Windsor Eton Riverside train station, down the hill from Windsor Castle. The Royal Oak also has a very nice outdoor seating area.

Anyone know what the 'Billy Elliot themed turndown' involves?! Maybe you get back to your room following the show and there's a pasty on your pillow plus a complimentary copy of Socialist Worker? Sadly, gone are the days when there'd also be half a pork pie in your shoe!

Brown's is just around the corner (not the hotel tea room, but the perennial favourite of Oxford students).

I stayed at the Rubens on all but one of my 20-some visits to London to see BETM. A very traditional English hotel offering excellent service, but at a price. The Billy Elliot special package costs around $400 per night.

Strange I was never aware of Browns Restaurant, even though I must have walked past it more than a few times.

They put a sausage roll in the bathroom. In the morning, someone comes to your door and yells "Get out of bed now!". And when you come down to the dining room, they'll be making you a nice cooked breakfast. :D

Wow! I just noticed I have the first post in this thread.
Anyway, since I haven't posted in a while, I would just like to remind you about my Google Map of London for BETM Fans.
I have been adding some sites in anticipation of my next London trip.
I think it is a great resource for out-of-town visitors and if you have places you would like to add, please let me know.

I agree about Brown's. Reliable and nearby, and not overpriced. I have frequented Brown's (the original) since my university days!
