Like last year, the Cannes Film Festival will sadly go from 11 to 21 May this year -
so the top VIPs of the Creative Team of BETM (like Stephen Daldry, Lee Hall, Elton
& David Furnish etc.) will all have to be there well before the start again - so none
of them will show up at the VPT on 12 May (but they won't come for a 6th anniversary
anyhow I think). So it might be all on the Resident Director to do some recognition
of the date hopefully...

Is there a film they will have in the competition this year, or is Daldry on a jury as he was last year? If not, then he may show up. But you're probably correct.

I am not sure that the Cannes Film Festival is particularly relevent. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th birthdays were all on May 12th. That is not to say the 6th birthday will be a red-carpet night however. But it's only in the past couple of years that the dates for Cannes have conflicted with May 12. Previously, Cannes has been later in May.
