Publicity for Sao Paulo, Brazil

Post by BEtourfan »

Here's an interesting article!

"Winner of 10 Tony Awards, 'Billy Elliot the Musical' comes to Sao Paulo in August"

Winner of 10 Tony Awards in 2009, the musical "Billy Elliot" will premiere at Credicard Hall (south zone of São Paulo) between 2 and 18 August

On stage, 45 actors/dancers recreate the story of Billy Elliot, an 11 year old boy who is forced by his father to train boxing, but finds the same academy talent for ballet. He will have to face the family to follow an artistic career.

The show directed by Stephen Daldry - who also directed the eponymous film - premiered in 2005 in London. Pop singer Elton John provides the soundtrack.

Since then, the British musical has been seen by over 7.5 million people on tour and in Sydney, New York, Melbourne, Seoul, Chicago and Toronto.

The information on prices and sales will be released soon.

translation of main copy block:
The T4F producer published on its official website all the news for this year. Some are not as new as well, such as the musical "the Lion King" and the show "Corteo Cirque du Soleil". The big surprise is in the coming of the Broadway smash hit "Billy Elliot," which will be played in Sao Paulo at Credicard Hall between 2 and 18 August. Because it is a very short season, I believe that this will be the production of the American Tour, where the show takes place all in English with subtitles. But these details have not yet been confirmed.
That would make sense, although shipping all the sets there and all the cast and crew.....seems expensive for only a 2-week run.

Joe, see quote block above. According to this, due to a short run, it'd be the Tour version as it is now. Obviously this is all very new news still.

I believe that this will be the production of the American Tour...

So now we know where the tour is going after Hartford. They will take some time off, and then head south. Unfortunately for them August is right in the middle of Brazil's winter.

There is no information whether this is a US Tour/NETworks production, but it seems likely. Nothing about it is up on the NETworks site as yet. I can try to ask the cast next week (in Clearwater) if we hear nothing before then. Perhaps the Grand Rapids/Hartford dates are there to keep the cast 'in training' over the summer.

The stock market is again up - and now this news! Today is turning out to be a good day!
