The Play That Goes Wrong

I've seen this show twice now on Broadway, and both times I was bowled over with hysterical laughter. My tissues, clean and crisp at the start, were in a knot of unrecognizable paper by the end of the first act. In fact, that's good advice: if you see the show, remember to bring lots of tissues, because you'll need them to dab your eyes and nose many times throughout the show!

At yesterday afternoon's performance, one patron was clearly off his meds, and was a bit too loud at times. Somehow for most of the audience, however, his antics fit in quite well with the craziness of the show. There was only one moment when a phone rang and he shouted out, "Hello?" that everyone shushed him, but true to the brilliance of the cast, the actor on stage just put his finger to his mouth with a smile. Even a patron like him didn't ruin the show in the least. All of the actors are not just hysterical, but supremely talented improv artists, too, which makes for a brilliant performance every time that is never quite the same as the show before it.

For anyone who's seen it and worried it would lose its effect the second time around, I can promise you my enjoyment this time around was still about 95%. And even the 5% of the time I wasn't in hysterics like last time, I still had a big smile I couldn't wipe off my face if I tried. It's so much fun! Go see it on Broadway while you can! Also still playing in London, Australia, and across the UK and Ireland!

Sean, I've seen this three times at the Criterion Theatre in London and have to agree it is hysterical. I would encourage people to go and see it, should they be in need of a 'lift'. It is slapstick comedy at its best.
