Spring Awakening seems to be really taking off in that poll! I didn't realise how popular it was!

I honestly rank Lion King over Billy...though I count that as a movie score.

Really? Billy, for me, has everything. It has all the things that make musical theatre so great. The Lion King, in my opinion, seems as if they went specifically for the 'grand theatrical' experience, as opposed to the real emotion etc. of the piece.

Ah but this is about the music...not the whole musical. Music only I'd rank Lion King and probably Chess ahead of Billy...not sure about Spring awakening haven't heard all of it. Spring is doing so well because it has more then a few obcessives that worship it(ala N2N rent etc). I still wouldn't count Lion King though here...it's MOVIE music, 9to 5 I would because its WAY expanded from the movie.

I voted for Billy just because it's amazing but I do think that the music in The Lion King is overall better and more memorable. Plus I can identify with the music more as it was part of my childhood. What we can all agree on is that Elton John is a genius. Look at how many of the top spots he has on the poll! If Spring Awakening wasn't there, he'd officially be #1! The Rocket Man abides.
